Charlotte Douglas International Airport


The airport is located 7 miles (11km) west of Charlotte. The drive from the airport to the city center takes from 15 to 25 minutes. What is the airport code? The airport has its origins in the “Charlotte Municipal Airport” which was built in 1936. The airport is named after Charlotte Mayor (1935-1941) Ben Elbert Douglas, Sr., who led the efforts to convince residents of the need for the airport. From central Charlotte, take I-277 to I-77 south, then exit 6B to Billy Graham Parkway and follow signs for the airport. Alternatively, from I-85, take exit 33 to Billy Graham Parkway, and then turn onto Josh Birmingham Parkway, following signs for the airport.
